This paper (pdf) is a preliminary description for an assessment project, 'Assessing students unfamiliar with assessment practices in Australian higher education'.
The assessment for an accounting unit at the University of South Australia was changed from tutorial participation to tutorial preparation. As a result students came to tutorials better prepared and better able to take part in discussion.
