She has extensive experience in the multimedia industry as both a producer and training provider. Denise was a founding member of the Commonwealth Government’s Information Policy Advisory Council established by the Telecommunications Minister in 1996, and the Director of OptCom SA Inc., an organisation specialising in multimedia production and training for young people with disabilities, from 1994 to 1997.

Denise and Assoc Professor Gerry Bloustien (UniSA) are leading a team of academics from six universities in Australia and the UK on a project involving the design and development on an open source, accessible 3D virtual learning platform.

The findings from Denise's research have been widely published in book chapters, peer reviewed journal papers and conference presentations. Denise is an Associate Editor of the HERD journal, and she is a reviewer for a large number of peer reviewed journal publications.

Significant awards include: South Australian Information Technology Achiever of the Year (innovative solutions for people with disabilities) presented by the Premier of South Australia, Comtech'94 and an SA Great Award for services to a special field (disability) presented by the Governor of South Australia, Proclamation Day 1994, as well as several University awards for excellence in teaching, equity and community engagement.
